Munky caught up with no other than Sidney Samson to chat about his upcoming appearance at The Usual Suspects for Halloween.
After just playing in the world’s biggest electro festival ‘Electric Daisy Carnival’, how do you adjust your song arsenal to a club scenario? For me it's pretty much the same. Always high energy. Doesn't matter if it's a festival or a club. The only thing that may influence the build-up of the arsenal is the duration of the set: longer sets allow to vary more within the show. What are you hoping to gain out of your tour to Australia? Anything in particular you wish to accomplish/see? I want to meet all my fans and let them see and know that I am worth waiting for :) My last Australia tour was off the hook! I hope this one will be even crazier. Australians know how to party !!! You’ve recently done a lot of collaborations or remixes with Rap/RNB artists, such as will.i.am, Lil Jon and Lil Wayne, it seems a lot of house producers are starting to do these sort of projects, what do you think is bringing this on? Nowadays in general a lot of styles seem to collide, bringing forward interesting combinations. The popularity of dance music is increasing rapidly in the states where most of the world's biggest pop and R&B stars come from, so they are inspired by a sound that's relatively new to them and they all like to team up with dance producers for that reason. It doesn’t matter whether you are a house producer, a talented rapper or singer, as long as you know how to make GOOD music, that’s all that matters because that’s what it’s all about and that’s what connects us. To do collaborations with Will.I.Am, Lil Jon and Lil Wayne was really a great honour for me. What was your main inspiration to start producing dance music? It’s simple, I wanted to play my own songs in my dj sets. That's how it all started. What was it like launching your own record label? Was it a big leap of faith, or were you confident in how things were going to go? I started a label because i wanted to be in charge of the releases. No big discussions with record labels. I just want to release my music whenever i want to. Are you looking forward to playing in New South Wales’ number 1 club night, The Usual Suspects? Of course I am. I've heard so many things about The Usual Suspects, I can't wait to perform there. At current, who would you say is your favourite producer, and why? Timbaland is still my number one producer. I don't know how he does it, but every single one of his productions is a hell of a hit! Let's hope I can do a Collabo with him one day :) What is the craziest thing that you have ever done/seen whilst performing? I saw a guy with riverside tattooed on his chest. Pretty crazy right? A lot of talk is being had about your song currently in the works, mutate, can you give us an inside scoop on how its sounding? This track will be released soon. You can find a preview on youtube. I made a 'Dutch' remix for it as well. Lil Jon and I pretty much raise the energy level in that song to a new record. It gives me goose-bumps every time I play it. If you had 48 hours to do absolutely anything you want, what would you do? Ok, this may sound boring to some but being a DJ also means always being on the road, traveling, sleeping in hotels so if I had 48 hours to do whatever I want, I’d probably choose to spend the time with my family.
