Mic Doney (Munky - MD) - So, Fake turns 1, how has the party changed (if anything) since the 1st party back at the old venue? - TANK
Christian Avant (FAKE- CA] - At Tank when we were just starting out, ultimately we were 4 people merging together with no real history of working together, so we had obvious teething problems. 12 months down the track and we've all settled into our roles and work as a tight knit unit. The parties have become bigger and better than ever before due to the immense rise in our brand and the artists that come through our club week to week MD - Tell Munky about how you put each night together and some of the juicy behind the scenes FAKE gossip? CA - Each night at Fake begins as a normal working week (well for us that starts Tuesdays at midday, Monday's are not our friend haha). We have a board in our office with all of our lineups up until January, so we are well ahead of ourselves with bookings. Josh and I are the "party boys" of the brand, there have been some things taking place that would leave even the most seasoned veteran blushing. In terms of gossip, we have SO much happening at the moment both within FakeClub and externally for our summer events. In December 2011 we have 4 internationals acts, January we have around 12 international acts spread between FakeClub and our bigger outdoor parties. MD - How do you guys feel about the party 1 year on? CA - I could not be happier what where we're at and what we're doing on a work level. Our new venue allowed to us to do so much more and more so the way we wanted to do them. Fake offers the complete clubbing experience with awesome sound, a sexy crowd and people there for the love of the music. At Fake we really focus on providing huge international acts on a week to week basis to satisfy the thirst of each of every clubber. MD - Whats the most outrageous thing you have ever seen or heard at FAKE? CA - Crowd surfing is a weekly occurrence these days. So thats not too outrageous. Quite sure I've been people making babies in the backroom and bathrooms as well. In all honesty, we cant remember much each week after midnight so i am sure there's a lot more taking place that we're not even aware of. (Christian sits back in his chair and nods at Josh across the room, Josh smiles) MD - How has clubbing changed for FAKEclub, do you see the impersonators trying to clone your party, if so who? and who would you like to punch in the face? CA - Answering this question truthfully could open a whole can of worms, I see things everyday online from other parties trying to imitate our non-standard promotional methods. I'm unsure as to whether its flattering or if it's just plain sad. We're forward thinking which is proves through our numbers every week, of course we have our sceptics that try and put us down but as a friend once taught me "Let your haters be your motivators, cream always rises to the top" "Who would i like to punch in the face? Hmm there are a few particular people that get under my skin in this industry but for the most part, I'm a lover not a fighter. Though rest assured if it ever happens, it will be front page Munky news haha" MD - What has been your stand out act/DJ/performance for your 1st year (2010/11) at FAKE. CA - Such a hard question, at our new venue, it would have to be Proxy. We had a barricade put at the front of the room and 3 security guards between the crowd and DJ booth. It was so intense there was sweat dripping from the ceilings. Do NOT come to Fake if you want to prance around like a princess, you will get trampled. Externally in the last 12 months, Kaskade at Greenwood. I've never seen an artist command a crowd the way he did. 3 hrs of his own originals and people knew every single word. Simply amazing! MD - What is your most loved addition to the new venue? CA - Our LED wall and DJ booth is a standout feature for FakeClub, there is no doubt about it. Before us, Nevermind on Oxford St was the only other venue that had a similar set up to us. Our kids come for the music and to get loose. At most Sydney clubs, 18yr old models stand at the bar eye fucking each other to see what designer they are wearing. At Fake, these girls are getting their tits out on the dancefloor and spewing in the fire escape. We bring out the best/worst in everyone. MD - Whats in store for the next 12 months? CA - We are doing most of the big festival afterparties for 2011/2012 at Fake with some acts that are going to truly blow people away. We have another Bondi Sounds event on Sat 17th December, another Area51 on Fri 6th Jan + quite a few of our famous Greenwood parties over Summer like we did with Kaskade. The first of these is on Saturday 28th January so pencil that into your diaries. And for the first time, we are venturing onto the Central Coast with some of the worlds biggest DJs, something that our friends up North don't get much taste of. We're also in talks for our first festival and also our own stage at one of the big festivals in the next 6 months. MD - Any last words to your FAKE community? CA - I wish to thank all the FAKE members and fans who come down each week, you guys are amazing. Stay tuned and check out http://www.facebook.com/FakeClubb for all upcoming information. FAKE holds their 1st Birthday @ FAKECLUB on August 20th 2011. |
