Mic Doney from Munky.com.au caught up with the boys from Trump Disco last week before their return to FAKE on Sat the 9th of July 2011.
1) So boys fill Munky in on your last 6 months, what’s been going down in the Trump camp? Trump Disco - Lots and lots of music! Playing around Australia which is always great fun and working on new things. 2) Your new EP is due pretty soon, any idea exactly when it will be released and can you tell us about how the writing and recording process was and where you plan to take your sound? Trump Disco - The writing/recording process is going through some pretty drastic changes at the moment. Previously we've been making music solely within the box, using reason rewired into ableton. Recently we've been experimenting with recording in a lot of live instruments and jamming that alongside our usual electronic sounds. Its great fun to do and makes such a difference creatively from us both just sitting down at a computer. 3) What do your DJ sets involve these days? We hear it can get pretty crazy Trump Disco - Our aim at the moment is to try and tease our audience into various other styles of music that influence us alongside our usual. We're in the process of trying out a slightly different approach to DJing, even dabbling in the idea of a 'live' show. However we want it to be seriously good and is something we'll be thinking more about when we get back from Europe. Whatever goes down in the future, you can always expect something highly energetic, heavy, fun, and deferent. 4) What is the craziest thing that’s ever happened whilst playing? Trump Disco - Joe got pissed on. 5) The rumor mill is thick with talk of a European tour… Can you tell us a bit about this? Trump Disco - Yes! we're going to be heading over at the start of November and looking at Asia as well. Gonna eat so much food, it's gonna be sick. 5) Who do you guys look up to and why? Trump Disco - Portishead, Radiohead, Gaslamp Killer, Autechre, Noisia, Seekae, Flying Lotus, Nick Cave, Boards Of Canada, Jackson And His Computer Band, Dirty Three, Pavement, and pretty much the whole warp label. They make amazing music. 6) What’s next for Trumpdisco? Trump Disco - Many things potentially. Mainly the different directions we've been experimenting with we mentioned before. We're hoping to broaden our sound, but we're conscious of keeping it 'Trump'. It's going to be interesting and we're really looking forward to seeing where it take us.
