Jamie Stevens
About me
Jamie's distinctive "trademark sound", his own take on techno and house, is one that most people find hard to pigeonhole. And he wouldn't want it any other way.
With 15 years in the business, Jamie still maintains an uncompromising approach to production and his music career in general, a career in which he has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success. As one of Australia's most talented and sought after music producers, he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary dance music.
As the founding member of 'Infusion', Jamie has received two ARIA awards and renowned website 'Resident Advisor' ranked their 2005 studio effort "Six Feet Above Yesterday" as the 32nd best electronic album of the decade. With this much-loved live outfit, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha - Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina.
Always wanting to create those special moments in the peaks and the plateaus, Jamie's DJ performances are laced with his own specially produced re-edits, tools and loops. These sets are best described as an hyper-energetic expression of his personality, always charged with all-important tension and atmosphere.
In less than 30 words, how would you describe your music?
Like a nice stroll in a blossoming park in Spring. With strobes… and a nice, big sound system… and a sudden, inexplicable appearance of a 20 piece African drumming band.
Who are your musical idols and inspirations?
Kenny Loggins and Enya. And walks in the park.
Favourite club to do a set and why?
So many great memories of doing Infusion gigs in the Cave at Chinese Laundry but DJ-wise, I had a great time last year at The Bunker for The Box.
Favourite gig you've played to date?
Played last year at a place called Ceres in Melbourne and that was pretty insane. Also a club in Argentina with Martin Garcia which was pretty wild. But I have a funny feeling that Loosekaboose could be a gig to remember…
We plan to break into your car - what can we expect to find in your CD player?
Well, that would be quite a tricky task considering I don't own a car nor do i drive. In my imaginary car, you'd most likely find year-old copies of street press, empty iced coffee cartons, a backgammon board game and a telescope.
Your fool proof hangover cure?
Am I? No has ever told me that I am. (Beer. Or a Blood Mary. I like drinking those. They're nice.)
Is getting laid a big part of being a DJ?
If you want children too, it's essential.
One record you're embarrassed to admit you own?
a 7" of "Orinocco Flow" by Enya
The weirdest thing a fan has ever done?
Stalked us across the UK only to beg us to join his family for dinner to meet the kids.
One thing you're willing to confess to your fellow Munkys?
I was born with an extra bone in my foot. True story
