Grant Smillie ticks all the boxes. Host of Australia's biggest dance radio show 'Overdrive' on the Nova network nationally, he also has collected 2 ARIA Awards with his dance outfit TV ROCK and is co-owner of Neon Records two of the most successful dance labels in the country. In December 2008, Grant also collected the prestigious title of being the GQ DJ of the year, picking up gongs alongside Hugh Jackman, Bert Newton, Arthur Galan and Baz Luhrmann! … did we forget to mention that he is one of Australia's busiest and most in demand DJ's?
As one half of TV ROCK (alongside compatriot Ivan Gough) the duo broke all records in Australia- not only scooping 2 ARIA awards also spending the longest time inside the top 10 charts in history. TV ROCK are regularly heard on the Pete Tong's Essential Selection and have recently collaborated with Laidback Luke and Zoe Badwi with a string of releases slated on their imprint Neon.
TV ROCK have also achieved 8 #1 ARIA club chart positions for their remixes and have remixed the likes of Groove Armada, Armand Van Helden, Dirty South Axwell, Fedde Le Grand and Paul Van Dyk to name but a few.
Grant is currently a resident DJ for Onelove nationally and has mixed no less than 6 of their 10 CD releases as well as mixing compilations for Ministry of Sound and his own imprint Neon.
Grant was voted #1 Victorian DJ in 2006 and is also an ambassador for Pioneer Pro DJ in Australasia. He was a runner up in the Cleo Bachelor of the year in 2007 and is again nominated in 2009 and has played private soirees for Prince, Kiss, Ferrari and has even played at the MTV Music Award and as the pre-game entertainment at the AFL grand final tennis to an audience of millions!
TV ROCK'S recent single 'Been A Long Time feat Rudy' went straight to the #1 position on the ARIA club charts in Australia and was signed to Axwell's label 'Axtone' where it smashed the beatport charts as well. TV ROCK have a new single called 'Feel It In The Air' which features the vocals again of Rudy and is set for release at the Miami Winter Music Conference in March.

Who are your musical idols and inspirations?

They are many and varied. Every musican has an element of genius in them. Stevie Wonder, Sade, Maxwell… on a DJ front Axwell, Tong, Guetta are all exceptional at their craft.

Favourite club to do a set and why?

Pacha Ibiza… It’s the clubbers mecca and you can play anything you want.

Favourite gig you've played to date?

One of the best was Sensation at Midnight NYE otherwise Tomorrowlands festival in Amsterdam

Umm ha ha. Maxwell’s new Album, The Cure, Best of Fleetwood Mac, Sven Vath’s latest mix CD and a new TV Rock tune…

Not even close. Be good at anything and you can get laid

One record you're embarrassed to admit you own?

Nothing! Even shit records have a purpose (if only to remind you of what not to do!)

The weirdest thing a fan has ever done?

Leave their baby on the turntable while I turned around to get a new CD and thought that I was all of a sudden a dad….

I am a sucker for a beer… who would have thought?
