The GameBoys
About me
From Humble beginnings in 2007 it’s been a fast ride for The GameBoys who have since established themselves amongst
Sydney’s party elite. It would be a mistake to say though, that these boys are just about the music. Tight jeans, a pretty exterior and suckers for late nights and expensive drinks, The GameBoys provide a whole lot more than just good music, which is why they are turning heads and the tables at Sydney’s finest venues.
With so much on show, it is not surprising the GameBoys have supported international acts such as Felix da Housecat, Boys Noize, D.I.M, Beni, Russ Chimes, Breakbot, Moulinex and Xinobi. As well as regular appearances with home grown stars, Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror and Bang Gang Deejays.
It’s not often that a renowned reputation as party boys will get you anywhere but for these guys it’s been anything but.
Recently schmoozing with Sydney’s A-List and playing their own brand of synth fuelled disco pop at events such as the Bondi Ink launch and Louis Vitton Christmas Party. You may not guess it but it’s not just about the glam for The GameBoys. Currently deep in production and with a busy calendar in 2010 the GameBoys will have to pick their champagne nights carefully . . . if they can.
In less than 30 words, how would you describe your music?
A mixed bag really. We’ll play whatever keeps people moving. Of late plenty of nu disco and edits of vintage tracks have been doing the job.
Who are your musical idols and inspirations?
Its always been the big guys that have come and conquered that have inspired us. The Cure, Stevie Nicks, Madonna, Human League, The Police… it’s a long list. More recently its been our friends D-CUP, Cassian and Universe that have been a big source of inspiration.
Favourite club to do a set and why?
There’s heaps of good ones. In the end if it’s packed it doesn’t matter.
Favourite gig you've played to date?
Only a couple of weeks ago in fact - Splendour in the Grass 2010. I’ve never seen any thing quite like it.
We plan to break into your car - what can we expect to find in your CD player?
Once you see my car I don’t think you’ll be that interested in breaking in. All that’s sitting on my back seat is a pile of scratched cd’s and a few stray ten cent pieces… your welcome to have them.
Your fool proof hangover cure?
Wouldn’t I like to know the answer to that.
Is getting laid a big part of being a DJ?
Its widely documented that headphones are a natural aphrodisiac.
One record you're embarrassed to admit you own?
Prince – Cream (and I’m not even that embarrassed about it)
The weirdest thing a fan has ever done?
Two guys went all out and dressed head to toe in Mario and Luigi outfits in GameBoys theme. We met them that night and they’ve been close mates ever since.
One thing you're willing to confess to your fellow Munkys?
Just a confession of an important fact we have learnt though our travels. That is, when traveling to Indonesia, remember that the penalty for masturbation is decapitation… SERIOUSLY.
